Know before you go

Tips for voting success on Election Day

1. Know before you go...that your voter registration is up to date.

Did you move since the last time you voted? The last day to

update your voter registration is Monday February 10, 2020.

You can register to vote or update online.

2. Know before you go...where your polling place is.

Prince William County has added new precincts.

Your polling place may have changed. You can easily confirm where you vote online.

3. Know before you bring Photo ID.

4. Know before you go...what will be on my ballot.

5. Know before you go...that you will be marking your votes

on a paper ballot and then you will be scanning

your ballot into new voting equipment.

The General Assembly has mandated that all Counties

switch to new voting equipment and paper ballots.

6. Know before you go...that you can avoid long lines on

Election Day by having an absentee ballot mailed to you.

Apply online today using the Virginia Department of

Elections Online Citizen Portal.

Ballots will be mailed after January 17, 2020.

How do I Vote?

Prince William County currently uses Paper Ballots and Optical Scanners to count your vote.

1. After checking-in with a valid photo ID, take you ballot from the Election Officer to the marking station.
2. Make your selections by completely filling in the BOX next to the candidate's name with the marking-pen provided.
3. For write in candidates, fill in the BOX next to Write-in and write the candidate's name there.
4. Review your selections for accuracy and completeness; you can ask an Election Officer for a new ballot if you make a mistake.
5. Feed your ballot into the Optical Scanner to cast your vote. If you have mis-voted, the machine will return the ballot for review.
